Fengdu Ghost City
Fengdu Ghost City

Fengdu is an ancient city with a history of over 1900 years, lying on the northern bank of the river between ZhongXian and Fuling.

The city is famous as City of Ghosts. The origin of the town's extraordinary reputation can be traced back to the Han Dynasty (206 B.C. - 220 A.D.). Two officials from the imperial court: Wang Fangping and Yin Changsheng, got bored with the political life in the court and came to Mt. Minshan outside Fengdu City to practice Taoist teachings. Both of them later became immortals by carrying out self-cultivation. This story widely spread and makes Mt. Minshan become famous. When combined together, their surnames Yin and Wang, sound very much like "King of Hell" in Chinese, hence the people began to call Fengdu the "Ghost City".

In Fengdu Mingshan Hill is most popular scenic spots, which was appointed as one of the national key relics in the Three Gorges. Shuangguishan National Forest Park is reputed as being This World, which is considered a fairyland of tranquility and harmony with lush greenery. The Ghost Land & God Palace and the Judicial Street in the Nether world are the largest ghost culture spots in China, featuring ancient structure. And there are many temples with horrible demon images.
